Omega, my breeding female born in June 2021 is an exceptionally nice, neat standard dachshund with black torch ointment, beautiful large expressive eyes, soft shiny, shimmering in the sun hair. The whole figure is proportional - it is a perfect combination of elegance and strength, which reflects its agile, active, smart character. Omega is very sociable, intelligent and brave. At the exhibitions, she received excellent marks. She has an uncanny ability to sniff out leads, making her an excellent hunting assistant. Plus, she's very family. Her cheerful and friendly character quickly made her a unique, captivating member of our family. In general, this dachshund is a great combination of intelligence, stubbornness, love and enthusiasm for working on the trail, which shines both in the family circle and with demanding tasks during hunting.

The dachshund is a small muscular dog with short legs and a long, flexible tail; has a strong jaw, oval eyes and drooping ears. There are three different types of dachshunds, starting with the smallest: rabbit, miniature and standard.

History:

What some say is that the beginning of this breed can be found in ancient Egypt, where on the walls of the pyramids there are drawings similar to a dachshund. However, modern dachshunds come from Germany. They were bred to flatten badgers from the burrow, but also to herd wild boars (rough-haired dachshunds), roam in the thickets and lose and fetch (long-haired). Later, finer rabbit dachshunds and miniatures were bred to hunt smaller animals.

Puppies:

Dachshunds are intelligent, clever, as well as stubborn dogs. Dachshund puppies therefore require a consistent approach in training. This breed can learn relatively quickly, but dachshunds like to be independent and do not necessarily what the owner would like. This is why the owner's patience is important. It is worth mentioning that early socialization of the puppy will allow him to quickly get used to the prevailing rules. A lot of attention should be paid in the first year of the puppy's life, i.e. a period of dynamic growth and development. It's crucial to ensure the well-being by providing a balanced diet. Owners should purchase pet-specific food.

Feeding a Dachshund:

It should be consciously acknowledged from the start that this four-legged friend is quite the gourmand. Without controlling portion sizes, they can drastically gain weight. The owner should provide their Dachshund with all the necessary nutrients in the right amount and introduce meals at regular times. Snacks, on the other hand, should be based on natural and simple ingredients. When choosing food for your dog, you should consider their age and size. Soft-hearted people who find it difficult to refuse the sweet looks of a Dachshund must become resistant to them.

Dachshund Will:

Dachshunds have a strong will and hate being wet. The owner should therefore be prepared to encounter resistance from them. In particular, walks in the rain and puddles or snow may not appeal to the animal. In winter, it is worth taking care of snow removal on the yard path, as Dachshunds are short and close to the ground, which causes them to get wet not only from above, but also from below. At home, however, certain rules and boundaries should be established from the first year, which the young Dachshund will adhere to.

eRequirements:

Dachshunds, although independent and self-reliant, appreciate human companionship. They love spending time among their guardians and feel best in the center of attention. However, they are not typical couch potatoes, but rather active working dogs that require an appropriate amount of exercise. What's more, they do not like to be bored, so you should take care of a range of activities. My Omega, for example, loves to play with a ball in the garden, and also excels at tracking.

Care:

Grooming short-haired Dachshunds is the easiest, does not require complicated procedures and products to maintain the dog's hygiene.
